May law enforcement incidents up 4.8 percent

RBC | The incidents received through the Rio Blanco County Communications Center modestly increased during May 2009, with a 4.8 percent increase in activity compared to May 2008.
Total incidents received through the communications center increased to 1,027 in May 2009, up from 980 in May 2008. The number of calls for service decreased slightly for the sheriff’s office with 221 incidents in May 2009, down from 246 in May 2008. Traffic stops increased significantly from 395 in May 2008 to 526 in May 2009 for the sheriff’s office, accounting for the overall increase for the second month in a row. The Meeker P.D. responded to 220 calls for service during May 2009, also down slightly from 227 in May 2008. Traffic stops for the Meeker P.D. decreased significantly with 37 stops in May 2009, down from 64 stops in May 2008.
Activity for both agencies included these most notable classifications: 563 traffic stops; 62 animal calls; 49 VIN inspections; 32 suspicious incidents; 27 civil situations; 24 motorist assists; 23 traffic arrests; 20 disturbances; 19 warrant arrests; 15 incidents assisting the Colorado State Patrol; 15 traffic complaints; nine accidents with property damage; nine criminal mischief cases; nine harassment cases; seven citizen assists; seven juvenile problems; seven thefts; six narcotics cases; five fire calls; five liquor/MIP violations; three assaults; three domestic violence cases; three DUIs; two injury accidents; two restraining order violations; two trespass cases; two weapons violations cases; one hit and run accident; one fraud case and one truancy.
During May 2009, the Rio Blanco County Detention Center operated at near capacity housing a daily average of 17.35 inmates, with 15.19 males and 2.16 females, down from a daily average of 18.37 during April 2009. The number of bookings decreased in May 2009 with 88 people processed in the detention center, down from 98 bookings in April 2009. Of the 88 people processed, 72 were jailed and 16 were booked and released. The number of meals served by the detention center decreased from 1,411 meals served in April 2009 to 1,347 meals served in May 2009.
