Fall Festival cut short by storm

MEEKER | The grand re-opening of Meeker’s Town Park and the annual Fall Festival fundraiser for non-profit organizations was cut short Saturday by a fast-moving thunderstorm that had attendees and vendors scrambling for cover.
It was the first time the Fall Festival, co-sponsored by Mountain Valley Bank, White River Electric and the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District, has been held at Town Park.
Mountain Valley Bank President Tawny Halandras said they won’t have total numbers tallied until the end of the week. People who didn’t get a chance to spend their “bank bucks” at the vendors’ booths are welcome to turn the tokens in at Mountain Valley Bank no later than Friday, Oct. 6 for prize tickets that can be exchanged at the Rec Center before 6 p.m. People with leftover prize tickets from the games on Saturday may redeem those tickets at the Rec Center before 6 p.m. Friday.
The winners of the ERBM drawing are: basketball, Maribel Oliva; beach volleyball, Harry Watt; football, Carson Cook; frisbees, Allie Sanders, Jamison Piper, David Cale; horseshoes, Janet Clark; croquet set, Alison Sitzman; large tent, Trevor Gould; small tent, Azalia Jessop; pop-up canopy, Weston Bayles. Winners may pick up their prizes at the Meeker Recreation Center during normal business hours.
Before the bad weather rolled in, about 110 participants took part in the Scrub Shirt 5K and family fun run, sponsored by Pioneers Medical Center. The funds raised will support the new 3D mammography machine that is being installed and certified for 3D mammography exams at Pioneers Medical Center beginning Nov. 1.
