– Considerable of the trouble in this country at this time is caused by two soldiers—General Apathy and Private Interest.

– Raymond Sykes was up to Marvine Lodge last week, where he found about four feet of snow on the level. An additional foot of the “beautiful” has probably fallen since then.
– About noon, last Saturday, the roof of the Shepherd machinery warehouse fell in on account of the heavy load of soft snow it was carrying.

– John Barney, while breaking a horse to ride on his Flag Creek ranch, was bucked off Friday afternoon, receiving four broken ribs and bruises.
– Wednesday morning residents here awakened and found semiblizzard conditions with 4 to 5 inches of snow in the ground … for those who got up around 7 a.m.
– The arrival of John K. Halandras has been announced by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Halandras. Little John has one older brother, Regas, age 2.

– According to the Soil Conservation Service’s first snow survey on the White River, snow conditions are above normal. Based on the area’s two snow courses with 56 years of data, the water content of the snow pack is 111 percent of normal while the snow depth is 108 percent of normal.
– The Methodist Church enters its 100th year with a program chock full o’ fun.
– While the nation salutes National Women in Sports Day on February 4, Meeker salutes a few of its own significant female athletes. They include Jennie Brown-Spence who played basketball around 1913, and Margo Lyttle-Coons and Lucy Jane Smith-Howey who pioneered careers in sports education in the 1940s. Lori Englert-Morlan and Lois Englert-Griffith and Vicky Frisby-Tate began winning championships as soon as women’s basketball was sanctioned in 1975.

Rangely Times — 50 years ago
– Another good way to economize is always say “Yes, Sir” and “No, Sir” when talking to a patrolman.
– There are many things government cannot do and one of them is build character.
– Miss Diane Peel has been named 1968 Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow for Rangely High School.
– More than a score of years of postal service ended last November with the retirement of Mrs. Minta Gerry—postmaster in Rangely’s second class post office since Dec. 1, 1955.
– Army Private Jerry D. Dembowski, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack T. Dembowski, was assigned as a heavy equipment operator in the 299th Engineer Battalion near Pleiku, Vietnam.

Rangely Times — 25 years ago
– The Board of Directors of the Rangely District Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Julianne Standen as chief executive officer of the hospital and Rangely Family Medicine.
– The Road Warriors, also known as the Rangely boys basketball team, began their seven game road stretch with a trip to Basalt Friday and then a league game Saturday in Soroco. The Panthers handed the Basalt Longhorns a 77-47 loss.
