The Meeker Herald — 100 years ago

Last Sunday was the 70th birthday of our esteemed fellow citizen, John A. Watson, and the occasion was observed in fine style at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilber, Danforth Park. Mrs. Wilber, who is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Watson, got up an elegant birthday dinner. Mr. Watson is a veteran of the Union Army and a pioneer in Meeker.

– Tim Wear, son of Mr. Robert H. Wear, met with a very serious accident at the Two-Bar Ranch, lower Yampa River. His horse fell with him and rolled over. He was picked up unconscious. Doctors were summoned, but after working on him for two days, they could not restore him to consciousness. His father and brother George then brought him here to Meeker. At the hour of going to press, the patient was still unconscious.

– Monday is school election day. Remember that $34,000 in bonds are to be voted on. The polls will not close till 4 o’clock. Show that as taxpayers you are interested. Never in the history of school matters in Meeker was an awakening more needed than at the present time.

The Meeker Herald — 50 years ago

It was undertaken at the request of the Meeker Chamber of Commerce, which, after an emergency Wednesday evening meeting, asked District Attorney Milt Blakey to conduct a criminal investigation of the Chamber’s former executive director, Anny Buffington.

Rangely Times — 50 years ago

– Senior Dale Matrisciano copped four first place ribbons at the Panther Invitational track meet Saturday to set a Rangely record. No other RHS athlete had won four individual events in the Invitational track meet before Matrisciano’s triumps in the high hurdles, high jump, broad jump and triple jump.

– The Rangely Lions Club will be holding its annual broom sale with mops, brooms and other household items for sale.

– The Epsilon Chi Chapter of ESA enjoyed a White Elephant Bingo party at the home of Bobbe Hoff with Betty Gilbow and Abbie Davis assisting. Prizes were awarded to Chris Hixson for the best costume and the booby prize to Mary Lou Angus for not coming in costume.

Rangely Times — 25 years ago

– The Rangely Development Agency met on the 26th of April but produced no significant news.

– It has come to my attention that students in the Rangely Public School system are not being educated about the deadly disease AIDS and how it is transmitted. Signed, A concerned student.

– Mary Ann Lee was selected by random drawing from among the many hard working Volunteers In Public Schools for the honor of VIPS of the Month for April.

– The 1993-94 Lady Spartan volleyball and basketball teams have just signed Rangely High School’s Jennifer Filener to a letter of intent to play for both teams next year. Filener contributed to the successful seasons this past year of the RHS volleyball and basketball teams.
