MEEKER | A human-caused wildfire was reported early Saturday afternoon at the end of County Road 121 in the Hamilton area. Multiple agencies responded to the blaze, which threatened multiple structures on private land. As of Monday morning, the fire was reported to be approximately 25 acres per RBC Sheriff. Air attack was on hold due to high winds initially. During that time, a hail storm moving through the area slowed the fire’s spread, which included a reported “firenado” as outflow wind gusts topped 48 MPH.
The fire has burned power poles and a hay barn. Multiple structures were reported threatened, including two homes, 3 hunting cabins, a barn and two RVs. Another ranch is located a half mile away. Air resources began attacking the blaze as the wind has died down. RBC Sheriff, Meeker Fire, Craig Fire, W. Routt Fire and BLM reported. RBC Sheriff posted that the fire is “well-contained” on their Facebook page at around 5:45 p.m. Sunday, but have not released an updated containment number.
As of July 31, this fire was 100 percent contained.
