Crews were able to gain substantial containment on the Cabin Lake Fire yesterday. The fire remains at 1,158 acres and is now 68 percent contained.

Today, crews will continue to patrol and mop up on the western, southern, and northern sides of the fire. With a good portion of the fire contained by direct fireline, firefighters and heavy equipment will continue constructing indirect fireline along the eastern side of the fire.

With fire activity decreasing and containment increasing, the Rocky Mountain Incident Management Team Blue will transition the Cabin Lake Fire back to a local Type 3 command at 1800 on Tuesday, Aug. 7.

All of those involved in the management of the Cabin Lake Fire would like to thank the community of Meeker for all of their support during firefighting operations. The commitment and dedication shown by the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office to the Cabin Lake Fire and the crews fighting it has been greatly appreciated.

Seven Lakes Lodge and neighboring cabins remain in pre-evacuation status. The Buford/New Castle Road remains closed at County Road 10 to the Forest Service Road 601 (Meadow Lake Campground turnoff).
