RBC | Thanks to welcome rains and cooler temperatures, Rio Blanco County will be moving from stage 2 to stage 1 fire restrictions on Saturday, Aug. 25.
Homeowners evacuated from their properties along County Road 10 were allowed to return Wednesday. The pre-evacuation alert for roads 10 and 17 remains in place, and the Buford-New Castle Road, County Road 17 and South Fork Drainage Road, County Road 10 at the County Road 17 intersection, remains closed while fire personnel and equipment work in the area, residential access only.
An emergency area closure remains in place on the Blanco Ranger District of the White River National Forest. Outfitters and permittees will be allowed access on County Road 10 and 17 to access camps and conduct livestock operations.
No structures have been lost.
Residents and visitors had high praise for the open house conducted by the Southern Area Incident Management Gold Team on Sunday at the incident command post at Lake Avery. Attendees were given tours of the camp with explanations of the firefighters’ strategies and equipment.
