Girl power! Lepro steps it up for Rangely

RANGELY I She had two opportunities Saturday, and she most the most of both of them.
Holly Lepro, a freshman for Rangely High School’s football team, kicked two extra points in the game against Grand Junction’s Central High School junior varsity.
The Panthers lost 16-14, but Lepro was good on both of her point-after tries.
“She’s got a good strong leg,” said Rangely coach Tim Galloway. “I’d much rather go for one and make that extra point.”
Lepro, who played football last year as an eighth-grader, is being tutored by Jerry Blankenship, who was an all-state nose guard and kicker for the Panthers.
“She was (kicking) straight on, but (Blankenship) had her move a little bit to the side, so she’s kicking more with the inside of her foot,” Galloway said. “I think it has improved her accuracy and her distance both.”
For her part, Lepro said, “It took a little bit (to adjust to the new kicking style). The way you stand and the way you swing your foot around are different.”
Lepro, who also played on the line in middle school, was excited about getting a chance to not only kick Saturday, but get on the field during a varsity game.
“That was the first time I did a PAT (point after try) in a game,” she said. “I love football. I’ve been playing since I was in middle school.”
