Panthers post several personal bests in Grand Junction

RANGELY I The Rangely Panthers track and field team traveled to Grand Junction this weekend for the multi-league meet held at Stocker Stadium. The Panthers competed against only 1A/2A athletes at this meet; all the teams were from the Western Slope. The meet was a two-day meet since other leagues were being hosted there also.

The Panthers did a good job of representing Rangely, bringing home several places and new personal bests. For the senior girls Makenze Cochrane took third in discus and fourth in the shot put. Breanna Davis had a new personal record in the discus for a throw of 91-0 for sixth place. Elena Forbes was able to get 13th place in the discus. For the senior boys Marshall Webber brought home the gold in the 110 high hurdles and the silver in the 300-meter hurdles. Riley Boydstun placed second in both the shot and discus.

Hannah Wilkie, junior, took third in the 400-meter dash and earned a new personal best with 1 minute 00.95 seconds. Junior Audrey Patch  got a new personal best in the long jump with 11 feet 11.25 inches. Junior Chloe Filfred also set a new personal best in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 15:31.72.

Sophomore Dixie Rhea earned fourth place and a personal record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.28. She also took sixth in the 200-meter dash with 27.92.

Timothy Scoggins was the lone freshman boy. He took seventh in the high jump with a 5-3. Chloe Goshe took eighth place in the 100-meter hurdles and 11th in the 100 dash. Mary Scoggins was able to elbow her way in to take fifth in the 1,600-meter run.

The girls put together two relay teams for the 800-meter sprint medley and the 4×400. The sprint medley relay took second with Chloe Goshe, Dixie Rhea, Mary Scoggins and Hannah Wilkie. The 4×400 took fourth with the same girls.

The team has one more meet before the end of the season. They will be traveling to Parachute for the Grand Valley Invitational.
