RANGELY I The Rangely Panthers middle school track team traveled to Craig last weekend to compete at the Best of the Best track meet. The middle schoolers competed against sixth-eighth grades. It was the final meet of the year and everyone competed well.
The middle schoolers did a good job of representing Rangely, bringing home multiple first places and many new personal records. To start off seventh-grader Macy Morgan got a new personal record in the mile while cutting almost 45 seconds. She also cut another 30 seconds in her 800. Ryan Mergelman competed in four events this weekend, the 100 hurdles, 4×100 relay, 800 sprint medley relay, and triple jump. Annika Cantrell competed in the 200 and high jump. Cantrell cut her time in the 200 by one second and cleared 4-2 in the high jump. Justin Allred ran the 800-meter and high jumped.
The sixth-graders were represented well with several girls and two boys. Ashlynn Ducey run the 100 hurdles in 19.13 which was 0.5 seconds faster. She also competed in the 200-meter dash and several relays. Allie Coker also ran the hurdles, 100 dash, high jumped for a new personal best of 4-0, long jumped and ran a relay. Lexi Lebleu ran the 100 dash, long jumped, triple jumped and was in a relay. Miah Wren got a personal best in the triple jump with a jump of 23-0.5. She competed in the 100 dash and several relays. Emma Winder ran the 400 dash as well as several relays. Clay Allred was busy running the 400 dash and the 800. Colin Zadra triple jumped and helped out in the sprint medley relay.
The eighth grade brought home a couple of first places. Kenyon Cochrane had a great throw in the discus of 135-2 and first place. He also threw the shot for 25-4.75. Corbin Lucero threw the shot for 27-1.5 and the discus 67-7. Wyatt Wiley was able to also throw the shot and discus. For the girls, Rylee Allred took fourth place in the shot with a throw of 28-3 and a first place in the discus with 77-8. Kyrah Phelps joined her in the throws as well as MacKenzie Manchester. Phelps took fifth in the shot and fourth in the discus. Manchester took sixth in the discus. Kadence Wagner compete in the three jumps—high, long and triple. In the high jump she cleared 4-2, and in the triple she took fourth place. Anthony Dorris took third in the triple jump, sixth in the long and high jump and also ran the 400 dash. Andrew Dorris brought third place home in the high jump with a new personal record of 4-10. He also took fifth in the 800 run.
They put together several relays. The first one was an 800 sprint medley relay which is a 100, 100, 200 and 400. Mergelman started the race handing off to Wren to Ducey and Emmeree Wagner finished the race. The girls took four seconds off their best time. The boys put together an 800 sprint medley made up of Zadra, Fisher Winder, Andrew Dorris and Anthony Dorris. They took fifth place overall. The girls 4×100 took seventh place with Ducey, Mergelman, E. Wagner and Wren. The 4×200 was made up of LeBleu, Coker, E. Winder and E. Wagner took eighth place and had a new personal best.
It was a good season with lots of learning and growing. The team would like to thank coaches Allred, Kurrasch, Trusa and Davin Boydstun for all the time and expertise provided through the season. Thanks to the high school track and field team for helping host the middle school meet. Also thanks to all the parents who helped at the meet and all the support throughout the season.
