Letter: Ty Gates for Rio Blanco County Commissioner: A 2020 Vision

Ty Gates for Rio Blanco County Commissioner:
A 2020 Vision

Dear Editor:

Hi, my name is Ty Gates and I am running for Rio Blanco County Commissioner, thank you for taking the time to visit my page (https://www.facebook.com/Ty-Gates-for-RBC-County-Commissioner-2020-400258997373259/). As a Meeker native, I am deeply rooted and committed to maintaining our county’s traditional values and rich history, meanwhile promoting economic resilience and diversity.

I am a strong proponent of fiscal responsibility and leading by example. As Emergency Manager for Rio Blanco County over the past several years, I was able to reduce department spending and maintain a balanced budget while enhancing the security and safety of the county.

Prior to my hire by the county in 2013, I was the head equity trader for a Denver investment firm. My responsibilities included trading for large institutions, as well as public retirement funds where I properly managed and budgeted significant capital.

I have served on several boards advocating for the best interest of our county and region. My local board involvement includes: Fair Board for the past seven years, Board of Health for the past two years, and Rio Blanco Fire Protection District Fire Board member for the past 18 months.

My regional and state board experience includes: Northwest All Hazards Emergency Management Region Board, where I am serving my second term as vice chair, and Colorado State Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC Funding Subcommittee), where I am intimately involved in creating a funding formula for state emergency management grant programs.

I actively represent the best interest of our county, holding true to values that I believe in my heart are the best for the community.

I look forward to visiting with you over the course of the next several months, listening to your thoughts, concerns and hopes for our future, and to discuss ways in which we can work together to maintain a vibrant and thriving county.
