Obituary: Peggy Jo Rector

Peggy Jo Rector, 80, of Rangely, Colorado, passed away in her home on July 2, 2019.

Peggy was born May 31, 1939, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Robert and Opal Lyle. She is survived by her sister Shirley McMullen of Blue Springs, Missouri; son Jeff and daughter-in-law Rebecca Rector of Rangely, her daughter LeaAnne Maloney (Rector) of Denver; brother-in-law Jay (Babe) Rector and sister-in-law Mary Sue Rector; three grandchildren—Kasey Schuerman of Greencastle, Indiana, Brian Rector of Rangely, Justin Maloney of Greeley; and three great-grandchildren—Logan and Laynee Emhovick of Texas and Hunter Schuerman of Indiana, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Carl B. Rector, grandson Keenan Lyle Emhovick, parents Robert and Opal Lyle, brother Jerry Lyle, brother-in-law Joe McMullen, parents-in-law Jay and Stella Rector, and sister-in-law Carol Ann Sommermeyer (Rector).
Peggy made Rangely her home in 1962 and left her mark on the town and the western slope of Colorado by her service in city, county and state government. Her voluntary participation with numerous local, state and national boards, committees and groups impacted the citizens of Colorado in a powerful way. Her awards and achievements are too many to mention but the bottom line is that she was one of Rangely’s biggest fans and advocated for any cause to better the community and the lives of those around her. Her absence will be felt for years to come.
Funeral services will be held at the Christian Church, 501 Darius Ave., Rangely, Colorado, on July 12, 2019, at 11 a.m., with visitation from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Rangely Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Peggy J. Rector’s name to CNCC Foundation, 500 Kennedy Dr., Rangely, Colorado, 81648, or http://weblink.donorperfect.com/support_cncc. Online condolences may be shared at www.AshleyValleyFuneralHome.com
