July incidents up 9.7 percent

RBC | During July 2009, the Rio Blanco County Communications Center experienced a 9.7 percent increase in activity compared to July 2008.
Total incidents received through the communications center increased to 1,267 in July 2009, up from 1,155 in July 2008. The number of calls for service decreased for the sheriff’s office with 269 incidents in July 2009, down from 309 in July 2008. Traffic stops increased significantly from 482 in July 2008 to 613 in July 2009 for the sheriff’s office. The Meeker P.D. responded to 239 calls for service during July 2009, down from 247 in July 2008. Traffic stops for the Meeker P.D. also increased with 102 stops in July 2009, up from 63 stops in July 2008. Traffic stops for both agencies accounted for the overall increase in activity for this month.
Activity for both agencies included these most notable classifications: 715 traffic stops; 58 animal calls; 42 suspicious incidents; 33 VIN inspections; 30 incidents assisting other agencies; 27 incidents assisting the Colorado State Patrol; 27 traffic complaints; 26 civil situations; 26 motorist assists; 23 disturbances; 22 traffic arrests; 19 warrant arrests; 15 citizen assists; 13 DUIs; 11 accidents with property damage; 11 thefts; nine fires; eight criminal mischief cases; four restraining order violations; three domestic violence cases; three harassment cases; three narcotics cases; two hit and run accidents; two injury accidents; two assaults; two burglaries; two liquor/MIP violations; two trespass cases; one fatal accident; one child abuse case; one search and rescue; one sexual assault; one suicide and one wildlife violation.
During July 2009, the Rio Blanco County Detention Center operated above capacity, housing a daily average of 19.77 inmates, with 18.16 males and 1.61 females, in a facility that has an operational capacity of 18 total inmates. The number of bookings decreased slightly in July 2009 with 103 people processed in the detention center, down from 104 bookings in June 2009. Of the 103 people processed, 91 were jailed and 12 were booked and released. The number of meals served by the detention center increased from 1,275 meals served in June 2009 to 1,577 meals served in July 2009.
The communications center logged 195 incidents during the July 4th weekend, which was a 106-hour period from Thursday, July 2 at 5:00 p.m. to Monday, July 6 at 3:00 a.m. The sheriff’s office logged 133 incidents and the Meeker Police Department logged 57 incidents during that period. The most notable activity for both agencies during the July 4th weekend included the following classifications: 112 traffic stops; eight suspicious incidents; seven disturbances; seven DUIs; five traffic arrests; three criminal mischief cases; two liquor/MIP violations; two restraining order violations; one accident with property damage; one suicide and one theft.
