Ladies teams scramble for top golf honors

RANGELY — Ten teams of three ladies each played Saturday during the annual three-lady scramble.
Through the years the format of this tournament has changed. It used to be a two-day event that consisted of a Friday low-am and a Saturday best-ball.
Last year, Teresa Broderick and Ellen Boudreaux played on the team that won in the A-flight, and this year they defended that title along with golfer Leilanie Morgan, who was on the winning B-flight team last year. The threesome shot a 1-under par 71, four strokes ahead of the second place team.
“We ham and egged it — I was mostly the egg today,” Boudreaux said, laughing.
On the par 5 No. 1, a hole that is 376 yards off the red tee for women, Morgan smacked a drive that ended up about 130 yards off the green. The team got on in two easily, with a downhill putt that was just above the hole. All three barely missed, but it left them an easy birdie tap-in.
“Teresa putted tremendously. She saved us,” Boudreaux said.
“We played against a tough team today. We just played a little tougher,” Broderick stated.
In the B-flight, three players that are still fairly new to the game of golf played an outstanding round; one which actually scored better than some of the A teams. Trilby Elam, Cori Elam and C.J. Wilson grossed a total of 73, which was only 1-over par and two strokes ahead of the second team in their flight.
“Cha-ching!” Trilby Elam exclaimed, “We just played good today.”
All three players found themselves in trouble on the ninth hole. Each ball had landed in a hazard known to the locals as the “Gator Pit,” but Trilby’s landed on a patch of mud and she managed a good shot off it and onto the green. The team saved par.
“Trilby could not miss a putt,” Wilson explained. They also birdied holes one and four both times around.
On each hole players had a chance at an individual hole prize. This year’s winners were:
n Hole No. 1: Leilanie Morgan for longest drive from the red tee box.
n Hole No. 2: Linda Gordon for closest to the pin on green with second shot.
n Hole No. 3: Ann Gilmer for drive closest to the 150-yard marker.
n Hole No. 4: Jackie Heuer for closest to the pin.
n Hole No. 5: Pam Horn for longest putt on green.
n Hole No. 6: Ellen Boudreaux for closest to the pin on green with second shot.
n Hole No. 7: Jennifer Gallegos for drive closest to the pin.
n Hole No. 8: Lani Cleverly for shortest drive.
n Hole No. 9: Susan Schmidt-Farmer for longest putt on green.
Other final results: A-Flight 2nd gross — Amber Nicholson, Heather Nicholson, Susan Nicholson 75. First net – Linda Gordon, Lavella Justus, Diane Peterson 76. Second net — Amanda Back, Jackie Heuer, Pam Horn 77. B-flight second gross — Susan Schmidt-Farmer, Lynn Kern, Patty Edwards 75. First net — Lani Cleverly, Jamie Eckroth, Kandice Torno 75. Second net tie — Ann Gilmer, Jennifer Gallegos, Gail Petry; Second net tie — Kelli Neiberger, Janet Mackay, Calista Raley.
All players left with a door prize and the tournament was made possible thanks to many local businesses and sponsors. Cedar Ridges’ Ladies Golf Association would like to thank any and everyone (that may be missed in the listing below) that donated and helped to make the tournament possible:
Ace-Hi Club, Alliance Energy Service Co., Basic Energy, Blu H Well Service Inc., Centrilift, Colorado CPA Services, Ducey’s Electric, First National Bank of the Rockies, Giovanni’s Italian Grill, Kent Hejl Consulting, KR Fishing and Rental, Los Tres Potrillos, Rangely Trash Service Inc., Rangely True Value Hardware, Rio Blanco Reality, Inc., Rocky Mountain Well Service, Stewart Welding, Sweetbriar, Urie Trucking, W.C.
