The Meeker Herald —
25 years ago
• A record-setting voter turnout propelled Jim Cook, Jan Hughley and Gus Halandras into the town board of trustees and mayor’s seat. 735 voters turned out for the election.
• The annual Meeker Lions Club carnival attracted hundreds of youngsters and earned $3,000.
• Fred and Sharon Day and their family spent eight fun-filled days in Florida, where the weather couldn’t have been nicer.
• Ashley Marie Hale celebrated her first birthday April 5, 1984.

The Meeker Herald —
50 years ago
• March went out much like February with a stormy week which left a foot of new snow in the high country and over a half inch of moisture in Meeker.
• Construction was progressing nicely on the new grandstands at the fairgrounds.
• Something new: Sure-Rite pencils with red ball point on one end of pencil and blue on the other. Ideal for bookkeeping.
• Roy Turner, Bert Whitlock and Roy Mathes arrived from Camp Travis, Texas, Monday. All had received their discharge.

100 years ago
• Grant Purcell has leased the Oldland-Smith Ranch in Powell Park. Mr. Purcell has freighted for many years but has finally concluded that in the long run there is much more in farming.
• “There are too many churches praying for souls to be added to them and providing only cold storage houses for them.”
• “The man who thinks he carries the key to heaven in his pants pocket soon finds it fits the wrong door.”
• We have found that thin spots in our rubbers can be mended at home by applying a cement made from five cents worth of real rubber dissolved in chloroform. Both kinds of rubber may be obtained from a dealer in dentists’ supplies.

20 years ago
• A verbal argument between four young Rangely men resulted in two of the men being airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital with severe head and facial injuries after they were attacked in the driveway of their home and beaten with a large metal breaker bar and a large screwdriver.
• Ronda Worrall, a student at CNCC, was named a Collegiate Scholastic All-American.
• RMS math students Chris Kelly, Bret McElvain, Jim Gerhart, Phil Gibbs, Larry Johnson and Jason Patterson placed third in the regional math competition.

The Rangely Times —
35 years ago
• James Sinclair was elected mayor of Rangely, with 50 percent of all registered voters casting ballots. There were 839 registered voters in 1974.
• “For those who wonder why people buy their small-town newspaper since they already know what everybody in town did that week, here’s the reason: ‘They buy the paper to find out which ones got caught.’”
• Tom Gill, Anne Brady and Mickie Lynn AuMiller were in the “Senior Spotlight” from Rangely High School for the week of April 4, 1974.

The Rangely Times —
50 years ago
• At the Rig Theatre: “I Married a Monster from Outer Space,” “The Blob,” and “The Last Hurrah,” starring Spencer Tracy.
• Lloyd Chism, Alan Yeager, Rhoda Lenderman and Walter Weiss were highlighted in the Rangely High School Senior Spotlight.
• The general manager of Moon Lake Electric accused the director of “meddling in the day-to-day affairs of the association” and said he was keeping the association “in hot water with one consumer or another in Colorado most of the time.”
