RBC | Following county political assemblies, candidates and 50 party delegates and their alternates, two of the four candidates vying for the District 3 commissioner seat now held by Si Woodruff have earned a spot on the June primary ballot. Incumbent Commissioner Jeff Rector (District 2) will be unopposed on the ballot for his district, after receiving 92% of the delegate vote.
To be nominated by the assembly, candidates must receive at least 30% of the delegate vote. To be nominated by petition they must have a minimum of 147 valid signatures and receive between 10% and 29% of the delegate vote, according to Rio Blanco County Clerk and Recorder Boots Campbell.
At the Republican Party county assembly last Saturday, Ty Gates received 44% of the delegate vote and was nominated by the assembly; Mona Avey received 26% of the delegate vote and had enough signatures to be nominated by petition.
Kai Turner, a former county commissioner, received 20% of the delegate vote but did not have enough signatures. Current Meeker Trustee Scott Nielsen received 10% of the delegate vote but his petition was also insufficient. Neither will be on the primary ballot.
According to a press release from the Rio Blanco County Republican Party, Debra Irvine, Senate District 8 candidate, joined the assembly in Rangely.
The District Assembly is scheduled for April 11 in Craig and delegates will decide on State Representative District 57, Judicial District 9 and Senatorial District 8. Delegates to the State Assembly and Convention, scheduled for April 18 in Broomfield, Colorado, will participate in the designation of a Republican candidate or candidates for U.S. Senate, national committeeman, national committeewoman, national delegates to the RNC Convention and the 2020 Party Platform Resolutions.
