MEEKER | The 2019-2020 school year was another winning year for students in Ben Quinn’s art program at Meeker High
School, including the first national medal winners in the Scholastic Art competition.
“It was a year of firsts for our Meeker High School Scholastic Art winners,” Quinn said via email. MHS Class of 2020 alumnae Addie Joy became the first student to ever win two consecutive Gold Keys in any medium and received the first National Medal for the Meeker program.
Addie Joy is the first MHS student to ever win two consecutive Gold Keys in any medium. She also received a National Silver Medal for her linoleum block print titled “Masked”.
Joy’s linoleum block print titled “Masked,” earned her a national silver medal. Her portfolio and her work directly express the need for social awareness in regards to depression and substance abuse.
Quinn also received a National Silver Eduator’s Medal for his involvement with Joy’s work.
Makenna Burke received the first ever Scholastic Gold Key in drawing and illustration for Meeker High School for “Goat”.

“There were more than 6,000 entries for this year’s Colorado Regional Scholastic Art Awards and only about 2%, or 120, artworks receive the prestigious Gold Key. These works then go off and are judged nationally. Colorado only had 34 national medalists this year, Addie Joy being one of them!” Quinn said.
