• Collins, the jeweler, has moved from the Oldland store to the restaurant, two doors east. Good work and moderate prices are building up quite a business for Mr. Collins.

• The body of County Commissioner L.F. Grace, who was drowned in the Grand river last May, was found last week near Silt.

• Eight million automobiles are registered in the United States. 

• While out deer hunting George Iles saw a large black bear across the gulch from him. He shot the bear but only wounded him. The bear got away. Later in the day George got several more shots at the bear and this time got his meat. The bear weighed over 500 pounds.

• The Meeker High School marching band, under the direction of Dale Jens, attended the Mesa College Band Day in Grand Junction Saturday and won first place trophy in the maneuvering contest for Class C bands. 

• Mike Brennan, member of the Naval Air Force now home on leave, will be departing Tuesday, Oct. 13 for his new duties at Lemoor, California.

• It was pajama day and cross-dressing day at the High School on Oct. 10. It was all part of the Spirit Week activities.  

• The Rio Blanco Board of County Commissioners canceled a public hearing on short notice Oct. 11 for a conditional use permit for a controversial guest ranch near the White River “upriver” from Meeker. 

• Budget Director Tom Judd submitted a tentative 1996 budget that is $488,100 less than 1995. The budget is based on an assessed valuation of $263,918,580, which is $27.16 million less than this year, and a whopping $90 million less than 1990 levels. 

Rangely Times ~ 50 years ago

• The annual Slush Pit Country Club award dinner and dance will be held Friday night at the Rangely College cafeteria. 

• Thanks to an alert Rangely young man, two men and two women are in county jail at Meeker awaiting trial in district court on narcotic charges. He notified Rangely patrolman E.W. Long Jr. that the four were attempting to sell marijuana to local people. All four were from Wisconsin.

• The good old days are probably those when you were neither. 

• Three Rio Blanco County men will leave for induction into the Armed Forces on Oct. 12. Marlin Davis, Floyd Franklin and Emil Nielsen will be inducted.

Rangely Times ~ 25 years ago

• Hundreds of Rangely High School students, friends and families cheered on the assorted Panther teams at the bonfire/pep rally held last Thursday.  

• Wendy’s International and the Heisman memorial Association have chosen Heather Stanley, a Rangely High School senior, as one of 20 Colorado finalists for the second annual Wendy’s High School Heisman Award.
