• Every man who goes wrong tries to shift the blame upon somebody else, and the greatest coward invariably selects a woman.

• The Meeker-Rifle stage changed to winter schedule this week and now gets in close to five in the evening.

• Hugus & Co. have new things in the dry goods. 

• Potatoes are 15 cents a bushel in Michigan

• Steamers from various American ports have been leaving with anywhere from 4,000 to 6,000 passengers traveling to Europe.

• Rent a room at The Meeker Hotel for $1.00 with a meal for 25 cents. 

• It’s that time to pick National leaders again. This year on the ballot for the Democratic Ticket is James M. Cox with his vice president Franklin D. Roosevelt. Running against Warren Harding with Calvin Coolidge.

• A mail delivery to Trappers ended in a rollover accident. DeLos Parr and his grandson were on a mail run delivery when they were forced to turn around due to bad road conditions. After turning around they happened to slide off the road before the Miller boys found them and took them to the hospital. 

• It’s expected that hunters will have good hunting in the White River area this fall.

• The admin building as we now know it today was officially named The Rio Blanco RE-1 Educational Center after a school board decision. 

• After the Iowa Test of Basic Skills it was found that youngsters in Meeker School District are testing well above their grade level in math, science, social studies, and reading. 

• The county commissioners issued a budget for 1996 that is $488,100 less than the previous year. They also canceled a public hearing on Oct. 11 for use of a guest ranch permit “upriver.”

• National 4-H week was observed last week. 

• Hunting season starts Saturday and many Rangely residents will spend the next two weeks in the hills or as many days as they can get away. For the first time, Rangely students will be dismissed for two days during the season.

• Acting on a recent proposal by Rex Howell’s KREX-TV station in Grand Junction, Rio Blanco County Commissioners last week voted unanimously for a television relay system that would bring Grand Junction and Colorado television to all county residents.

• Hotels are filling, waitresses are scurrying and cash registers are making “cha-ching” noises as hunters descend on Rangely for the first combined rifle season, which started this last weekend. 

• Two Californians, in the Rangely area for a hunting trip, were involved in an accident Monday at 12:45 p.m. that claimed the life of 42-year-old Bruce L. Routon of Porterville. He was eastbound on County Road 122 (Calamity Ridge Road) on the wrong side of the road in a left hand curve when he met a westbound vehicle and swerved to the right to avoid a collision, losing control of his vehicle on loose gravel.
