  • An item in another column tells how Western Slope businessmen are agitating for a change of the name of Grand river to that of Colorado. The change should be made. The proposition has our endorsement.
  • The P.E.O. Society met at the residence of Mrs. F.E. Sheridan. Routine business being disposed of a musical program was rendered and much enjoyed by all present, after which refreshments were served.

  • The following boys and girls who won a Christmas present early, following the free movies at the high school Saturday afternoon for all the youngsters in this area are: Gwen Mannel, Tinker Toy set; David Steinert, gun and holster set; Kathy Collins, set of toy dishes; Teresa Steffa, chess game; Sara Eliasen, checker kit; Jannie McClure, Bingo-Matic; Jackie Fritzlan, Drinkee Walker; Michelle Barone, sled’ Cherie Ann Lippard, tea set; Dale Dunbar, train set; Norma Davis, kitchen set; Brenda North, Grand Prix; and for the little boy, Darrel Bicknell, who drew the numbers, Chevy 55 auto set.

  • n The school week controversy is perhaps one of the most divisive in Meeker’s history.
  • n “Aerobic exercise is a key to healthy living,” says Steve Hill, physical therapy assistant with Pioneers Wellness Center. Recent studies demonstrate the effectiveness of exercise in significantly reducing symptoms of depression.
  • n Molly Turner, daughter of Bill and Ann Turner of Meeker, performed this fall as a member of the University of Wyoming Western Thunder Marching Band. Molly is a drum player majoring in social work.

Rangely Times – 50 years ago

  • Vandals recently shot out one of the mercury vapor street lights near the high school, as well as a parking light, in the latest of a series of senseless acts.
  • Multiple underground nuclear gas stimulation shots are being considered for the Plowshare experiment called Rio Blanco near that site.

Rangely Times – 25 years ago

  • Zorro, the clever K-9 with the nose that knows, and the shortest member in the Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Department, is on the prowl.
  • The Rio Blanco County Commissioners adopted the 1996 budget proposal. To avoid dipping into the haunting red ink, Rio Blanco will have to rely on reserve funds for the next year.
