The Meeker Herald – 125 years ago

  • Judge Platt Rogers is of the opinion that a railroad into Northwestern Colorado is the most important line that Denver men could project for the coming year.
  • Perry Spurlock and Mary J. Watkin were quietly married by Justice Mow last Friday evening. Perry’s host of friends wish him and his bride long life, happiness and prosperity.
  • Albert C. Ellison and May Smith were married by Justice Mow on Sunday evening last. Everybody — and especially upriver people — knows jolly, whole-souled Al Ellison, and everybody and The Herald will wish him and the girl of his choice a happy and prosperous life.

The Meeker Herald – 100 years ago

The new fixtures for the Meeker post office arrived on Tuesday of this week. These fixtures have been delayed for a long time. It is the hope of the postmaster to have them installed immediately after the Christmas rush is over. These new boxes will be more satisfactory to everyone.

Holiday Greetings:
The PEOPLE have said they want a change.
They have said to take off the brakes, turn on the power and GO AHEAD.
You want better times. So do we.
But it is up to each one of us to help — we will all have to get our feet set on the ground and PUSH.
Get the corners of your mouth pointing up instead of down.
WISH for better times — THINK them — TALK them — FIGHT for them and you will GET them.
Forget your grouches of yesterday and what caused them. Getting even takes time and many a man has taken a lot of punishment trying to do it. You just waste today to bring back yesterday.
Eat optimism and confidence and you grow success.
Get your feet under the table, Mr. Man. It is time to eat.
Sincerely,
The White River Lumber Co.
