  • A social dance will be given at the Coal Creek school house on Friday evening, Jan. 31, 1896. All are cordially invited. By order of Committee.
  • Most of the cattlemen are paying their wolf tax very promptly and as a result the war on these stock-destroying “varmints” is being pushed vigorously. Every stockman in the county should contribute his pro rata to this fund. It is in his interest to do so, as it is conservatively estimated that fully a thousand head of stock per year is killed by wolves on Piceance and adjacent territory.

The Meeker Herald – 100 years ago

  • The top 10 leading industries in the U.S. currently are meat packing, iron and steel, flour and grist mills, foundries and machine shops, lumber and timber, cotton goods, cars, motor cars, boots and shoes, and newspapers.
  • The weather has changed from spring-like to cold very quickly. We now expect some snow to appear very soon.

The Meeker Herald – 50 years ago

  • The traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall will make a stop for seven days in Meeker this year. It will be at the courthouse for those seven days over the Fourth of July.
  • Pioneers Hospital got full accreditation of its mammography unit. This came after a re-review due to a challenge from the hospital.

Rangely Times – 50 years ago

  • To find out what a poor loser you are, just start dieting.
  • Rangely residents last Wednesday night heard CER Geonuclear and Atomic Energy Commission officials report on the likely location and target date of the proposed Project Rio Blanco experiment for nuclear stimulation of “tight” natural gas fields.

Rangely Times – 25 years ago

  • Persistence paid off for Marvin and Alice Boleng, a local couple who didn’t want to take “no” for an answer from the Rangely Development Agency. The Boleng’s reapplied for and received a $36,000 low-interest loan from the RDA. The money will help the couple accelerate completion of their White River Inn project.
