  • The proceeds of the New Castle relief ball will go to those affected by the recent disaster at the mine.
  • It’s said that the Oldland store has metropolitan air in the dry goods window.

  • Henry T. Wilson of Flag creek made his shipment of wheat to the railroad recently.
  • A surplus of mud on the Meeker-Rifle road caused mail deliveries to be late several days last week.
  • On Wednesday Feb. 23, the Little Beaver Sewing Club met at Mrs. Ferd Green’s residence. The next meeting will be hosted by Mrs. Roy Winslow on the 9th.

  • Woolgrowers Association names Wes Raley as the new President. Raley took over former president Jerry Seely’s seat.
  • The snow survey that was taken on March 1st showed good results. The water supply is now 116 percent of the 20 year average.
  • The members of the Mile High Snowmobile Club arrived in the Sleepy Cat area ready to ride. People interested to ride with them can meet them at Windy Bill Ranch for dinner.

  • The Meeker Elementary School Library was invaded by teddy bears to be a part of the WE LOVE BOOKS month. In total there were 125 bears that rotated around the library listening to stories.
  • The percentage increase from child support collections was up 5% from the last two years.
  • The employees of Colowyo Coal Company received the 1995 Colorado Mine Health and Safety Recognition Award on Feb. 26. They received the award because of their completion of one million man hours of work without a lost time injury.

  • Due to a blizzard, many members of the Big Country Headwaters RC&D Executive Committee were not able to attend the meeting on Feb. 25.
  • On May 4th two directors will be elected at the Re-4 school election.
  • Bids will open Thursday for the new municipal building.

  • Coach Bill Turner was selected to the Colorado High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
  • Former chief of the Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Boyd Millsaps, resigned this week due to time restraints.
  • Four years of coal reserves were lost in the Deserado Mine due to a fire that rages three miles down under the ground. It was said by spokesperson for Western Fuels-Utah Ned Leonard, that the fire doesn’t really matter in the long scheme of things.
