  • Ground will soon be broken for the Odd Fellows hall.
  • An additional force of bricklayers was put to work on the Meeker hotel and walls are now going up rapidly.

  • The White River reached its highest on the last day of May. It will now gradually recede but there seems to still be a lot of snow in the high country, so it will likely be a month before it returns to normal.
  • Memorial Day was celebrated this year with a parade that started at the courthouse and ended at the cemetery.

  • Mrs. Dorothy Herring, curator at the White River Museum, received a Thunderegg from Ross Burt. Mr. Burt had the geode cut and polished to show off the center design.
  • A new fire siren will be tested this weekend after firefighters complained of not being able to hear the siren blow, so a new siren was ordered.

  • The class of 1996 graduated 49 seniors from Meeker High School as well as graduating its first class from the Meeker Alternative High School.
  • The town council took on the topic of the trash and alleyway problem Meeker has. Because of the tricky subject, a public hearing will be held June 18 in the Fairfield Center.

  • Richard F. Bock is the new principal of Rangely High School, who comes after Wiliam Bell’s two years in the position.
  • The past 22 years of Rangely Days rodeo queens and their attendants have been invited to attend this year’s rodeo and to ride in the parade, all 22 have accepted and will be attending.

  • Rangely High School and the Colorado Water Watch program are pairing up together to get students first-hand knowledge of river systems through Riverwatch. The students will collect water from the White River for Ph, alkalinity, hardness and dissolved oxygen tests.
  • Rio Blanco County Commissioners said that funding for Highway 139 to Douglas Pass will have to wait until 1997.
