Elementary building may be ‘mothballed’
MEEKER I With the clock ticking until the elementary school building becomes the fiscal and physical responsibility of the town of Meeker, the board of trustees continue to discuss possibilities for the building’s future.
Who wants the old elementary school?
MEEKER I “After feeling like we were pretty well rebuffed on our proposal for the downtown justice center, we’ve basically concluded that going ahead with construction on the current courthouse property is the most cost-effective.
New district ranger brings wealth of experience to job
MEEKER I Ken Coffin has been in Meeker for a couple of months now, settling in to a new town and a new job. Coffin replaced Glenn Adams as the Blanco District Ranger for the U.S. Forest Service. Adams is now the Rifle District Ranger.
Survey shows county economy rebounding
MEEKER I In spite of local perception, the recession hasn’t hit Rio Blanco County as hard or affected it as deeply as other areas of the country, nor is the current economic situation as dire as the bust experienced in the early ’80s.
County pulls out of talks on old school
MEEKER I The county has apparently determined the site of the old Meeker Elementary School building is not “suitable” for its needs.
Meeker voters will go to polls in April
MEEKER I Meeker’s board of trustees opted for polling places instead of mail ballots in the upcoming election, which will save the town almost $5,000.

RBC | Sales and use tax receipts collected from July through October 2009 are, unfortunately, in line with the rest of the nation’s economy.
Town of Meeker reduces mill levy
MEEKER I In its final regular meeting for 2009, Meeker’s board of trustees officially approved a mill levy reduction for the coming year. Record high property valuations would have generated an additional $66,000 in property tax revenue for the town, with business property owners taking the biggest hit.
Meeker budget will include assessment costs
MEEKER I Between now and Dec. 8, any interested elector in Meeker may inspect the 2010 budget and file comments or objections. The budget will be presented for final adoption at the Dec. 8 town board of trustees meeting.
