The Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) has issued an avalanche warning for the Flat Tops mountain range and many other parts of Colorado. Avalanche danger is high (level four of five) according to the CAIC.
The warning goes into effect 5 p.m. Monday, January 15 and will remain in place through Thursday, January 18.
“Heavy snow and strong winds have created very dangerous avalanche conditions. Large and dangerous avalanches will be very easy to trigger,” the CAIC bulletin reads.
According to the CAIC, travel in backcountry avalanche terrain is not recommended at this time. Avoid travel on any slopes steeper than 30 degrees.
