MEEKER | Meeker’s Board of Trustees approved a proposal from the Meeker Area Mountain Bike Association (MAMBA) to go toward construction of a pump track at Ute Park.
According to MAMBA’s project proposal, “Besides being an innovative play park amenity trending in more and more public spaces, a pump track is a track for wheeled sports equipment that, when ridden properly, does not require pedaling or pushing, but a ‘pumping’ action to maintain momentum.” Pump tracks are accessible for all ages and abilities, and can be used by all types of bikes and scooters. Hard surface tracks — a longer term goal for MAMBA — can be used by skateboards, inline skates and long boards, as well.
The proposed track will be built using all volunteer labor and in collaboration with several area contractors who have agreed to assist with equipment and materials. The track will border the existing parking area at Hill Street on the Anderson Gulch side of access to existing trails.
Additional volunteers are welcome.
The board also approved a $3,200 donation for MAMBA to go toward hiring a track builder from the Silt/Rifle area for some additional trail connections to provide easier access to the China Wall trail system. The $3,200, contingent on MAMBA getting necessary approvals from BLM, would cover half of the estimated cost. MAMBA plans to approach the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Park and Recreation District for additional funds.
In regular business, trustees approved special events liquor permits for the Meeker Lions Club for Range Call activities, a temporary tavern license for Caroline’s Louisiana Kitchen to operate at Elk Mountain Inn (723 Market St.) and a temporary retail liquor license for SKT Jehorek LLC dba White River Liquor.
The board also approved a contract with United Companies for the 11th and 12th streets paving project and continued a motion to approve the Request for Proposals on the Circle Park Riverfront Project. Board members said they have not received all the information they need to make a decision. A workshop has been tentatively scheduled for next Thursday at 7 p.m., contingent on having complete plans available for review.
