At CNCC, we are heading into finals week and commencement season. Student academic and leadership honors ceremonies took place on April 2 and April 5. Nursing student pinning, National Park Ranger completion, and Aviation Wings ceremonies will all take place on May 10 and the Dental Hygiene pinning ceremony and Commencement for all graduates will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2024. This is a tremendous period of celebration and pride felt by students, their families and CNCC employees alike. Highlights from these events will be shared in June’s 2024 CNCC Corner.
The following are a few activities that have taken place during the month of April:
On Thursday, April 18 in Craig, CNCC hosted a kick-off planning event to explore the development of a small home project to provide safe, affordable housing for CNCC students and short-term housing for CNCC employees as well as employees of community partners. Technical assistance through the planning process is being provided by Capelli Consulting, with grant funding graciously awarded by Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA). Planning will take several months with hopes of identifying project options and next steps.
On Saturday, April 20, the College held its annual Foundation Dinner. The event was a resounding success in its organization, attendance and financial participation. All dollars raised are used to: enhance current instructional programs; develop new programs; improve college facilities; offer student scholarships and/or; fund special projects outside the scope of traditional funding sources.
This month, CNCC will welcome its new outdoor leadership coordinator. It has been several years since this position was occupied full-time. CNCC holds dear its vision statement which states, “Colorado Northwestern Community College will be the college of choice for students seeking a unique education grounded in the Colorado experience. It is the Colorado experience that the coordinator strives to expose students to while studying at CNCC. We also hope to engage members of the community in activities that bridge Spartan tradition with the beauty of the Western Slope.”
The coordinator will plan excursions and activities that honor hunting, fishing, ice tower and wall climbing, rafting, hiking, and many others. Outdoor activities will be advertised on social media, the college’s website, or via the Campus Life offices on both Rangely and Craig campuses.
