CNCC CORNER: OCTOBER ‘24

As homecoming activities wrap up and the days shorten, it’s clear the fall semester is in full swing. Alongside classes, our students are embracing outdoor adventures organized by the recreation department and enjoying local Halloween events and Oktoberfest. Fall is also when we emphasize CNCC’s core value of community involvement through civic engagement.

On Sept. 17, 2024, CNCC observed Constitution and Citizenship Day, a federally mandated occasion for educational institutions to recognize the adoption of the U.S. Constitution and educate students about its history.

Throughout the year, CNCC encourages student involvement in leadership and civic activities. Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), a national honors society for two-year colleges, promotes both scholarship and volunteerism. CNCC’s PTK chapters regularly lead community efforts, such as coat, food, and laptop drives. They also work with local organizations like the Elks and hospitals to serve meals and help the elderly. PTK members are eligible for scholarships while at CNCC, with additional opportunities upon transfer to four-year universities.

Student Government is another platform for leadership and service. Representatives serve on governance committees and engage in volunteer activities, including working with local schools. Students can learn more about these and other clubs by visiting Clubs & Organizations on the CNCC website.

Additionally, many CNCC programs contribute to the community by offering services like free dental cleanings, participating in emergency preparedness drills, and providing haircuts for the elderly. Faculty and staff also serve on local boards and help with school fundraisers.

With this year’s election approaching, many of our students will vote for the first time. Please help them understand the importance of registering, voting, and staying informed on candidates and issues. For more information, share the following local election websites:
