Fairfield semi-annual grant deadline April 1
MEEKER | The deadline for the semi-annual Freeman E. Fairfield grant applications will be 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Applications may be mailed to PO Box 2302, Meeker, CO 81641 or delivered to White River Electric (233 6th St), ATTN: JH Sheridan, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m Mon-Thurs. Applications must be received, not just postmarked, by April 1, 2025.
Lenten Fish Fry April 4
MEEKER | The Meeker community is invited to the Holy Family Catholic Church (889 Park Ave.) Lenten Fish Fry, April 4, from 5-7:30 p.m. The cost: adult is $17/adult, $6/child (under 12 years old). The meal includes: two pieces of fish, French fries, coleslaw, dessert and beverage. Take-out is an option. There will also be a bake sale for those interested in buying baked goods. Come and enjoy fellowship and a good meal.
Smoking River Brewing Co. chili cook off April 5
MEEKER | Fourth Annual Chili Cook Off, Saturday April 5 starting at 4 p.m. at Smoking River Brewing Co. Enter your chili or be a taster! Awards will be given to People’s Choice, Best Green Chili, Best White Chili and Best Red Chili. Sign up on Facebook or pick up the form at the brewery. Tickets for tasters are $12 and include two beers.
Prime rib dinner and pie auction fundraiser April 13
MEEKER | Mark your calendars to attend the annual Prime Rib Dinner and Pie Auction fundraiser, hosted by the Rio Blanco Masonic Lodge to raise funds for local scholarships. $25 a plate, held at the RBC Fairgrounds 4-H Building. RSVP to Steve Coley at 970-456-3596.
Join the Memoirs Club
MEEKER | Come join the Memoirs Club: do you have a life story to tell, but don’t know how to start? We’ll be happy to share how fun it is, one page at a time! Wednesdays, (8:45 for newcomers) from 9–10:30 a.m. In the Old West Heritage Culture Center (517 Park) in Meeker. Space is limited, so reserve yours today. It’s free, but donations to the museum are appreciated. Bring a notebook specifically for your stories, writing implements, and room for flat props (pictures, brochures, etc.). Meeker Book Club
MEEKER | The Meeker Public Library book club is reading Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell. We will meet to discuss the book at the Meeker Public Library on Monday, April 14, at 1 p.m. Extra copies are available for check out at the library if you would like to join in the fun. Local Working Group Meeting
MEEKER | Wednesday, April 23, 6-8 p.m. (food and beverages included), at the Fire Protection District (240 7th St.). Hosted by the White River and Douglas Creek Conservation Districts, we are collecting feedback from the local community to gain insight into key local natural resource concerns. This information will help identify and develop conservation projects in partnership with local producers. Natural resource concerns range from water quality, irrigation, forest health, streambank restoration, and wildlife to rangeland health and more. Funding is available to support eligible projects. Free Fire Preparedness Bootcamp for Landowners
MEEKER | Saturday, May 10, 10-2 p.m. (lunch included) at Cty Rd 8 Campgrounds (Mile Marker 24). Celebrate National Fire Awareness Month by joining us for an outdoor workshop in collaboration with our partners. Workshop stations will include: creating defensible space, chainsaw 101 safety, stacking for chipping, slash management, how to harden your home and a reflective 911 address sign making station. MEEKER | ERBM Recreation & Park District is hosting Adult Open Gyms (ages 18 and up) on Tuesday evenings, with a different sport featured each month. March: Basketball at Meeker Elementary School, Tuesdays, 7 to 8:15 p.m. (No Open Gym March 18) April: Dodgeball at Meeker Elementary School, Tuesdays, 7 to 8:15 p.m. ERBM Recreation & Park District Punch Pass required to participate.
