RBC | Meeker’s fireworks display is still on the schedule and Rangely’s Kenney Reservoir display has been cancelled as of press time. Cancellation of Meeker’s event is still possible.
Citizens are urged by local authorities to refrain from using any kind of personal fireworks due to extremely hazardous conditions. Despite some recent rains, fuel sources, even in town limits, remain very dry.
Meeker Chief of Police Edward Thompson said several officers will be responding to calls about fireworks use throughout the holiday weekend. The Rangely Police Department issued a reminder via social media stating, “…all fireworks will be illegal this year in the Town of Rangely as Rio Blanco County is currently under a Stage 2 fire ban! Don’t waste your money or risk the hefty fine!”
“Any and all” consumer fireworks are banned under Stage 2 Fire Restrictions countywide.
