• The Tennessee Transmission Gas Company will drill a wildcat well on Upper Strawberry.
• Marshall Sam Cron helped more than 100 boys and girls during the bicyle clinic held at the grade school.
• At Don’s Market, “Frozen food at prices advertised on TV.” Meat pies, five for $1; TV dinners, 59 cents each; shrimp, 59 cents for 10 oz.

• The Cathedral Bluffs Oil Shale Project worked through a discussion with county officials regarding the funding of a potential rec center for Meeker.
• Dorothy Chappell was honored as “employee of the quarter” at Pioneers Hospital.
• Kimberly Syer and David Muxlow were united in marriage March 3 at Faith Baptist Church. The Rev. Rayburn Cox officiated.
• Critics said Meeker couldn’t support four banks; but not only did the People’s State Bank survive to celebrate their first birthday, they have a brighter future to look forward to..

• At Bestway: Ground beef, 87 cents per pound; 25 lb. bag flour, $4.29; 2 lb. package of Velveeta, $1.65.
