Owing to bad roads the stage from Rifle has been late every day during the past few weeks. The roads were never before so bad, but will improve every day from now on Messrs. Harp and Cole and their operating force have been doing the best they could under adverse conditions.
Weather for the week: Saturday — rain in plenty. Sunday — fine. Monday — rain, hail, lightning, thunder, mud, blizzardy and generally disagreeable. Wednesday — Fine. Thursday — Same. Friday — More same. This morning — Couldn’t wish for better weather, and roads drying up fast.

Commissioner Fred Nichols arrived in Meeker early Saturday morning with the news that another shooting had occurred the night before in the Rangely section. The victim of the tragedy being Mrs. John Miller, the daughter of Horace Coltharp and the offender being one Earl Cook, a newly appointed deputy sheriff in that section.
Everybody ready to go swimming? Well, wait a while! The pool will be finished next week and it will be dandy. There will be no charge for its use and everybody will be welcome to use it as often as they wish. This swimming pool will no doubt prove to be one of the most popular places near Meeker this coming summer. It will not only be a source of pleasure but the hot sulphur water will be most healthful.

C.W. ‘Bill’ Brennan, Rio Blanco County rancher and County Commissioner, announced early this week that he intends to seek the Democratic nomination for State Senator from District 31.
Frank G. Cooley, Meeker lawyer-geologist, has been named by President Gerald Ford as chairman of the Arkansas River Commission. The Commission is a seven-member board established by a Colorado-Kansas interstate compact to allocate the flow of Arkansas River water between the two states.

Police Chief E.W. Long resigned from that post Monday, following his re-appointment to the position by the new town board.
The annual banquet for Rangey High School Athletes has been scheduled this year. This year’s speaker is Bruce Haroldson, head coach for the Mesa College Maverick basketball team.

Crews from Five Points Construction work on installation of conduit for future fiber optic lines on Sixth Street at the corner of Market and the alley between Market and Main in Meeker on Monday.
An extensive, detailed study of oil reserves in the Wever formation is going on now by Chevron USA, Inc, just outside Rangely. Using reading of reflections from sound waves generated by vibrating plates, a three-dimensional graph is being made of formations under the surface of the ground. Using the 3D readings picked up by geophones in a five-mile square are to the west and north of town, Chevron geophysicists Rick Moran and Doug Gregory will use the information to make inferences of oil remaining in the Rangely Weber field.
