The Powell Park bridge is said to be in bad condition. The commissioners examined it Thursday and will take steps at once to repair it.

Although the season is young yet, Rio Blanco County has received quite a number of new and substantial settlers this spring.

We are glad we are not living in that storm-infected territory east of the main range of which Denver seems to be the center.

Meeker received her share of honors at the State Spelling Contest held in Denver last week. Miss Baker returned home Saturday with the two contestants–Louise Bewley and Ilda Idol of Meeker.

In a contest held in Glenwood last week for High School pupils, Roys Arnold of Rio Blanco High School won first place in Beginners Shorthand and second place in Advanced Typewriting. Good for Roys.

One of the first local groups to get out and start clearing litter from the roadways and streets of Meeker will be the Cub Scouts and the Webelos of Meeker Pack 191 and the Boy Scouts of Troop 191.

Losing first place by only 9 ½ points to Glenwood Springs, the MHS girls’ track team placed a close second place in last weekend’s team relays.

Mr. and Mrs. Ken Dunbar returned Tuesday of last week from a three months’ winter tour, traveling throughout the southwest states in their trailer home.

The extensive remodeling project at Pioneers Hospital is about to enter its very last stage. And that’s especially good news for the hospital staff and patients.

Three former Meeker nurses and one current Meeker nurse have been nominated for the 2000 Nightingale Award, founded in 1985 by the University of Colorado School of Nursing: Kay Chambers, Erma Rucker, Joni Davis, and Carol Dorsett.

Rangely Lions Club annual Broom Sale is Saturday, May 3, beginning at 9 a.m. Eight Lions members will be selling a wide variety of brooms, mops, and household items door-to-door.

Ken Hayden and Bestway Stores has been selected by the Board of Directors of the Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce as the winner for May Merchant of the Month.

The Boy Scouts of America Troop 189 and the Young Women of Rangely’s First Ward would like your help in displaying the American Flag on national holidays.

On Thursday evening, April 13, the Eighteenth Annual Honors Banquet was held on the CNCC Rangely Campus with over 100 people in attendance. The evening was a celebration of excellence and achievement for students.
