Says a rural editor: “Money is close, but not quite close enough for us to reach it.”

Ambrose Oldland, who has been on the sick list, was up and around this week. 

The state authorities have finally tired of appealing to the Washington authorities to keep the Utes on their reservation, and have taken the matter in their own hands. Mr. Johnson will attempt to arrest the marauding Utes should he find any on this side of the line.

Our perfect fall weather lasted until midweek when about four inches of show came along and gave us a touch of winter. Up until the storm the roads all over the county were dry and dusty and in good shape.

Mr. and Mrs. James Sheridan returned home last Sunday after a week in the Eastern part of Utah where the Sheridan Bros have extensive land holdings. James reports that section on the boom due to high sheep prices.

The December term of District Court for Rio Blanco County will convene on Monday of next week, Dec. 10, with Judge John R. Clark presiding. The County Commissioners selected the jury list some time ago, and six women have been called for jury duty. This will be the first time women have been called for jury duty in Rio Blanco County.

Mr. and Mrs. Kesseler have opened a coffee shop in the frame building located between the telephone office and Bruce Motor Co.

A New Castle man was found frozen to death alongside Highway 13, eight miles south of Meeker, last Wednesday morning after his car skidded off the ice road about 1 a.m. that morning. Earl Francis Wight, 37, was found about 100 feet from his car. It was the coldest night of the season for the Meeker area, a minus 9 degrees in Meeker, and with the blowing wind south of town, the chill factor made the temperature even more severe. 

Construction of Meeker’s water distribution system began this past week with Kipp Inc. laying the 8-inch ductile pipe up First Street. 

RANGELY TIMES ~ 50 years ago

A group of citizens put their heads together to grapple with decisions about Rangely’s future. Dick Bonar from GOREDCO met with the group to take decisions back to the drawing board for the Rangely master plan.

Project Rio Blanco experiment continues. Preparation for additional formation evaluation is expected to begin about mid-November at the Project Rio Blanco site near Rifle. Upon completion of the evaluation, during the summer of 1976, it is expected that the well will be plugged and abandoned.

Over 75 community members turned out to take part in the Meeker school district’s fifth annual long-range plan review. According to Karen Benner, superintendent of Meeker District schools, this method of getting input from the public helps the board and administration get on the same page as the public. 

Moon Lake Electric  customers in Rangely and Dinosaur will receive credit on their December bills from the utility company and may receive as much as one month’s average bill.
