• The Miners at Hahn’s peak and vicinity were greatly worked up last week over an attempt at wholesale claim jumping in that district. As a preventative a liberal use of hemp was threatened, which is a very good remedy in such cases.
• Simp Harp has secured the mail contract for summer service from New Castle to Marvine Lodge and will run a line of fast passenger coaches in connection with the same.

• The Junior class play was given last Saturday night at Dunham’s hall to a crowded house.
• The Chemist Club at Meeker High School held its third meeting last Friday in which Mrs. Treadwell gave a lecture about sugar, which was greatly appreciated by all present.

• An extensive background radio-activity monitoring program over a broad area from Meeker to Grand Junction is now underway in preparation for the Project Rio Blanco, a nuclear gas stimulation test proposed for later this year in Piceance Creek Basin.
• Each year at Masonic Grand Lodge awards are presented to members for outstanding work in the various Masonic bodies. This year Gaines S. Greene, Illustrious Grand Master of the Grand Council Royal and Select master announced that the winner of this year’s awards was to be presented to Clifford Robinson, Past Illustrious Master of Northwestern Council No. 22.

• Great fun was had by all at the Fairgrounds last Wednesday night when 23 Cub Scouts from Pack 190 had their annual Pinewood Derby with a brand new track donated by the Meeker Lion’s Club.
• During the month of January Pioneers Hospital topped the million dollar mark in its efforts to raise funds for its new clinic expansion and internal remodel project.

• The Rangely Ward MIA (Mutual Improvement Association) of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints sponsored a Music and Arts Festival on January 26th with several piano soloists.
• The Bernard F. Yaeger Chapter of The National Junior Honor Society held its induction assembly on Jan. 25 and inducted 9 new members.

• The Rangely Regional Library is pleased to announce its acceptance as a participant in the Libri Foundation Books for Children program, which helps give childrens’ books to libraries in rural areas.
