Don’t overwork yourself. Imagine how miserable you would be if you finished all your work today and had nothing to do for the rest of your life.

J.A. Simms returned from Rangely yesterday. Mr. S has been running the Coltharp store at that place for some time past. 

Last Saturday W.E. Simpson killed a porker of Poland and Chester breed which tipped the scale beam at 465 pounds, dressed. This is doubtless the heaviest hog ever raised in this county.

Gerald and Walter Oldland were up from Piceance this week. They were moving their cattle to new feed grounds.

Ernest Oldland returned mid-week from Grand Junction where he took his wife for an operation for appendicitis. He reports Mrs. Oldland doing nicely, however she will stay there for several weeks yet. 

Last Saturday, about three inches of fresh snow fell in this section. This was followed Sunday night by a couple more inches of the “beautiful.”

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Watt recently returned from a two-week vacation which included visiting with friends living in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Reno, Nev. 

A turn-away crowd of Northwestern League wrestling has witnessed the ecstasy of victory and the agony of defeat as well, as the Meeker Cowboys proved they are No. 1, picking up their second NWL championship trophy.

75,000 Green stamps and two electric wall clocks were up for grabs during Saturday’s drawing to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Bernie’s Super 8 Market in Meeker.

Concrete workmen are still working on getting the forms set for the elevator shaft at the new town hall on Market Street. This deep hole is necessary because the elevator will serve the basement as well as the second floor for the municipal building. 

Most of this weekend’s basketball games were painful, but the freshman girls played Aspen at home Saturday. They once again seized victory with a final score of 48-23.

The Cowboy JV wrestlers finished their season last Saturday by competing in a tournament at Palisade. They came back with two champions and one consolation champ.

Correction: In a story in last week’s Times concerning the Elks Hoop Shoot state contest at Colo. Springs, it was reported that Mont E. Warren was second in the 13-14 year age group. He made 16 out of 25 baskets but did not place.

Miss Patricia Piering, junior at Adams State College, was among those named to the Vice President’s Honor Roll for the fall semester.

Plans are being developed by the Colorado West Area Council of Governments to conduct a human resources inventory of a four county area using students and faculty members of three local colleges to conduct the inventory.

Fort Lewis College Student LeAnn K. Brubaker, theater major, has been named to the Dean’s List for the Fall 1999 Trimester. 

Former Rangely resident Alta Jean Hefley passed away February 5, 2000, in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

The Rangely Varsity Panthers finished their season with a game on Friday. Unfortunately, they were overmatched, and Basalt cruised to an easy 63-48 victory.
