Monday was Lincoln’s birthday and Wednesday was St. Valentine’s Day. Both events were observed quietly in Meeker.
The recent improvements in St. James church are a lasting memorial to the work and tireless energy of the rector, Rev. Mr. Handel.

Wednesday was a busy day for the Harp Bros stage line. The incoming coach having seventeen passengers aboard.
Glen Gregory of upper Flag Creek is about again after a severe dose of the flu.

After long hours of practice and work, the Meeker Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America was well rewarded with ten contestants qualifying to represent District 9 in the state competition.
The State Wrestling Tournament began last Thursday night and continued through Saturday evening. Meeker \’s grapplers placed 7th as a team with total points of 28.
Playing uninspired ball, the Meeker Cowboys went down to their 16th defeat, at the hands of the Rangely Panthers, 108 to 42.

A natural gas valve left partially open on the grill at Clark’s restaurant is being blamed as the likely cause of a blaze that caused moderate damage in the restaurant over the weekend. No one was injured.
Maria G. Halandras, longtime Meeker resident, died February 9, 2000.
South Dakota senior U.S. Senator Tom Daschle announced members of the Ranchers-Cattlemen Action Legal Fund (R-CALF), including Meeker’s Kathleen Kelley, will be meeting with President Clinton at the White House on February 23 to discuss initiatives to help livestock producers.

Rangely’s Dairy King held its Grand Opening under new management February 5. Managers are Don and Kathy Breivik, who moved here from Vernal.
All Masons and their invited guests will enjoy a pot luck dinner Saturday at the Masonic Temple. The dinner will be observing Washington’s birthday.
The CNCC basketball team won two and lost one last week to bring their record to 9-17 to date, although winning five of their last six games.

RHS senior Devon Widner signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Lamar Junior College.
Yates Burt, Rangely’s senior wrestling team captain, qualified for the state wrestling tournament.
In Twin Falls Idaho on February 11, the Lady Spartan streak of four wins in a row versus College of Southern Idaho, came to an end as the ladies fell by a score of 90-69.
