The Community Christmas Tree which was held on the public square Christmas Eve went over with a bang and hundreds of children were made happy as well as the numerous “grown-ups” who shared in the festive occasion.

The climax came when a bugle sounded and Santa Claus mounted on a big sled piled high with gifts and drawn by four fiery steeds, said steeds being four mules of uncertain disposition, appeared on the scene and with his assistants distributed a gift to every child present. Those children who were unable to be present were sent gifts later by the committee in charge of it.

After listening to Irving Berlin’s beautiful “White Christmas” played by the Meeker High School concert band, the near capacity audience walked out into a winter wonderland of snow following Dale Jens’ annual Christmas concert Thursday evening, Dec. 19.

With appropriate stage decorations, the program was a true experience in music, warmly received, as the community entered the remaining few days of the holiday season.

The Meeker Lions Club is organizing a photograph to be taken on the courthouse lawn at 2 P.M. on Saturday Jan. 1, 2000. Every Meeker and eastern Rio Blanco County resident, family, friends, guests and anyone else who is in town is invited to participate in this once in a millennium photographic opportunity.

Jan. 1, 2000 is a special occasion and the Lions Club believes it will be fun to have a community event to celebrate the occasion and provide a permanent record for everyone that will prove where they were this expectational day.

Dear Editor:

Christmas was a wonderful time enjoyed by all the residents of the Walbridge Wing. Many people worked hard to see that a good time was had by all.

Thank you to: The hospital employees for their generous donation of toys and candy to fill our Santa bags. To VFW Post #5843 for their donation of toys and stuffed animals for our Santa bags. To our two Santas’ John Kapushion and Bill Ertmer for their cheery Ho, Ho, Ho’s.
