The snow continued to fall most of the week and up to date we have nearly two feet of the beautiful which from all reports is more than they have at Marvine. 

James Sheridan received word that the company drilling his land near Vernal had struck a flow of gas and the prospects for oil look promising. James will soon be milking the earth instead of a bunch of cows.

The optimist is a man who expects to find a clean pair of socks with no holes.

Still another burglary is under investigation by the Meeker Police Department after a break into the Space Station. The break-in was discovered at 6:30 a.m. Dec. 30. Taken during the break-in was the cash register and $10 in nickels and pennies. 

Avalanche warnings are in effect for all mountain areas in the state of Colorado through Thursday, Jan. 9, with a likelihood of being extended through the week.

Meeker’s varsity grapplers came out hungry for victory and defeated Hayden easily Saturday night by a score of 48-6.

A request to overturn the high school principal’s order forbidding athletes from taking laps in the school corridor was rejected by a 4 to 3 vote of the Meeker school board on Jan. 4. 

Kevin Borchard was among 1,856 students expected to receive degrees in the final commencement ceremony of the century at University of Colorado at Boulder. Kevin received a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry.

The Meeker JV and Varsity boys basketball teams finished the 1999 portion of the season. The JV team was crushed by the stronger, more experienced Rangely. The Varsity game started soon after and the final score of 72-40 would lead spectators to believe that this was a repeat of the JV game.

The Rio Blanco Oil Shale Project has asked the U.S. Department of the Interior for permission to nearly double the amount of land it would use in northwest Colorado. 

The Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce has agreed to help promote, with the Colorado Centennial-Bicentennial foundation of Denver, our 100th anniversary as a State. 

Spartan wrestlers start post-holiday competition with their first home match Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Colorado Northwestern gymnasium where they take on College of Eastern Utah.

Rangely City Crews were busy clearing the streets after last week’s heavy snowfall. Some estimated that a full foot of snow fell in an eight hour period. 

Paul Field received a yummy birthday cake on his eighty-ninth birthday. 

Teachers from Moffat County gathered together at Deerlodge Park to successfully complete the first teacher workshop at Dinosaur National Monument.
