• The following is from an Independence Day address delivered in Washington by Hon. Benjamin Butterworth, and is worthy of careful consideration: “There is not a legislature today under this flag that has not its organized banditti within its midst who buy and sell legislation, and there is not a municipality under this flag but that has a hand in it who for a sum of money will guarantee to block or hasten legislation.”
• Gates Kersberg has had the Kentucky Liquor Store corner improved very much in appearance by a very artistic job of window and door painting.
• Game Warden Kilduff made a thorough search of the Lost Park region last week for game violators, but found no indications of the presence of violators in that section. Tom is keeping a close watch on the movements of certain tourists who recently left the Hotel Colorado, Glenwood Springs, for the flat-tops.

• Poisoned bran mash gets the grasshoppers. Don’t hesitate when they appear. Get busy.
• Tom Ruckman of the Park was a business visitor to the city Tuesday.
• Near Beer (or the nearest thing to the real stuff) was much in demand past week.
• Meeker church-goers will observe that tomorrow forenoon will be held a community religious service in the big Chatauqua tent. Let everybody be in attendance.

• Meeker firemen answered a call for their help at 5:15 Tuesday afternoon at the Hermie Dunham ranch northeast of Meeker. Lightning was the apparent cause of a sagebrush and grass fire, which with the hlp of the fire department was confined to a small area.
• Meeker qualified four swimmers for state: Vicky Frisby, Kim Soper, Mike Tate and Kenny Zeigler.

• Question: With my kids being able to access the Internet at home and even at school and the local library, how can I ensure they don’t run into anything dangerous or obscene? Answer: Parents must take responsibility for their children’s access to the Internet.

• David Allred, a 1972 graduate of Rangely High School, has been accepted into Who’s Who in High School Honor Society. The Rangely senior was among the top 3% of the graduating seniors in the nation’s public and parochial schools.
• Construction has started on the foundation of a building to house the local Montgomery Ward catalog store here.
• Fun is like insurance. The older you are the more it costs.

• Rio Blanco County Sheriff Phil Stubblefield installed a “Ranch Watch” sign on White Ave. on July 9. Several of these signs now grace the county in efforts to thwart crime.
• Jim Gilbert was among those who graciously labored over hot charcoal for Moon Lake’s annual Customer Appreciation Day. Hundreds enjoyed the event.
