• Secret Societies: Rio Blanco Lodge, No. 80, A.F. & A.M. meets the second and fourth Saturdays in each month. Valentine Lodge, No. 47, I.O.O.F. meets every Wednesday evening at 8 o-clock in the Hugus block.
• Harman Coulter says the climate here is much superior to that of Craig, and he is thinking of staying with it for an infinite period.
• H.R. Grinstead and wife, of Lily, Colo., were guests at the Miller House Wednesday.

• During the week a very important real estate transaction took place when Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Baer sold their palatial residence on west Garfield Avenue to Mrs. Wyman from Galesburg, Illinois.
• The “Prohibs” are talking of putting up a presidential ticket. They claim that neither the Republican or Democratic parties are dry enough to suit them.

• Kathy Nelson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Nelson of Meeker, celebrated her first birthday last Friday, July 10.
• A small brush fire, which threatened to move on up the hill east of Moyer’s Sawmill, was extinguished Monday afternoon by the Meeker Fire Department. The fire started from burning weeds. At 4 p.m. yesterday afternoon, firemen extinguished a similar fire at the junk yard, just north of the Aero Inn Supper Club.

• Sixteen Meeker business people have decided to form some kind of organization to attract more tourists to Meeker during the winter, spring, and summer seasons. The nature and name of the organization will be decided at a special meeting in the Fairfield Center basement.

• Mrs. W. A. Goudeau and Mrs. H.O. West, members of the Rangely Garden Club, watered the newly-planted trees and shrubs at Hefley Memorial Park near the west city limits.

• In a split-second explosion that sent a plume of dirt and dust 40 feet in the air, a bottle of hazardous material recently found at the Rio Blanco Landfill in Rangely was destroyed July 6. The bottles, according to the labels, contained ammonia hydroxide, sodium cyanide and a 62% solution of waste perchloric acid. Although the first two chemicals aren’t something you’d want to handle, the third, perchloric acid, is deadly.
• Elizabeth Bailey, age 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bailey of Rangely, has won the Miss Colorado American Coed Hostess title at the annual state pageant. She will represent her state at the National Miss American Coed Pageant, to be held in Florida at Disney World.
