Commissioner Jim Rector went out Thursday with 250 head of beef steers – headed for Kansas City.
This section was visited by a heavy frost Thursday night, but so far as we have heard, very little damage was done.

Someone counted 102 persons in swimming at the pool at one time last Sunday. There is a crowd there nearly every evening.
Meeker like most other parts of Colorado has been suffering from extreme hot weather past week. All over the inter-mountain section record high temperatures have been had. The thermometers in Meeker stood from 95 to 98 degrees last week.

Schmidt Construction Company, which company was the successful bidder on the Highway 64 project thru Powell Park, have set up their camp on the Cross L ranch three miles west of Meeker and are really getting a start on this six mile construction project which runs from the Meeker Monument to the west end of Powell Park.
Ernest L. Wilkinson, claims attorney from Washington DC, announced recently that the 74-year-old debt that the government owes the White River Indian Band for land they left in Colorado soon will be paid.

Town personnel were busy last week and this week digging a trench across Main Street and down FifthStreet to the highway for a large underground culvert to carry the runoff water from a new drain at the corner of 5th and Main into the main sewer system. Should be a big improvement to keep the downtown area from possible flooding during sudden runoff rains.
Mr. and Mrs. Ben Gianinetti, Jr., announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Voni Maria, to Bill Stewart, son of Mrs. Nellie Stewart, all of Meeker.

The grand opening of the Canyon Pintado Interpretive Exhibits was held on Saturday, July 8.
As part of a project, Alina Smalec has spent many hours studying and researching goats. She is pictured here with her market goat as the Rio Blanco County 1999 Champion. She, now, enjoys educating others about goats.

The keys to any degree of oil shale development of Federal Tract C-a in Rio Blanco County are government incentives and a sound national energy policy according to officials of the Rio Blanco Oil Shale Project at a meeting of federal, state and local administrators July 16 in Denver.
Kelvin M. White, son of Mrs. and the late Claude White, has been hired to fill the place of Tom Martin who has returned to California to school. He comes to the insurance office from Fort Lewis College in Durango where he was majoring in accounting and business administration.
Charges of police brutality (this time in Rangely) last week involved a young Rangely patrolman and a 17-year-old he had charged with driving a vehicle with an improper muffler installed.
