The maid of honor contest in this county has finally narrowed down to Miss Fannie Wear of Powell Park and Miss Clara Steele of Buford.

The Meeker baseball team will cross bats with the Craig team on the local grounds Sunday afternoon.
There are so many ways to get in trouble and so few ways to get out.
Much interest is being centered on the Beaver creek structure being drilled by the Transcontinental Oil Company. The well is now down 3,000 feet and the oil sands are expected within a few days.

Meeker police say they have no solid leads in the recent rash of burglaries in which two local store owners have reported that they have lost over $2,000. Another business was also entered but the thieves could not crack the safe. Watt’s Ranch Market owner Harry Watt was the hardest hit as he lost around $1,585 after an unknown person or persons broke into his store Monday night. The burglary followed Saturday night’s crime in which White River Liquor store owner Ed Miller reported $450 missing.
Mr. and Mrs. Al Wear enjoyed a two-week vacation in Canada by way of Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park. They took in part of the Calgary Stampede rodeo, returning by a different route thru Montana and Wyoming.
Meeker High School band members attending Summer Band Camp at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins this week are Jana Jirak, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Jirak and Ann and Jack Ball, children of Mrs. Joan Ball. Saturday night the three will participate in a concert which will be presented to the public.

If you are one of the little geniuses who’s Thanks to a unanimous vote of the Pioneers board of trustees, the hospital here will soon–very soon, perhaps–have a Computerized Axial Tomography (CAT) scanner, which today is just called a CT scanner.
The Meeker Herald and the Rangely Times, starting with the issue you are holding in your hands, will now be printed at the regional web printing plant at Steamboat Springs. Cook & Company has sold its newspaper printing press to a printing company in Mexico City, Mexico.
Rio Blanco County voters will once again be asked to overturn the term limitations placed on county elected officials.

Mosquito spraying has been rescheduled for Friday morning this week, weather permitting.
James H. Bos, Rangely College in Rangely, Colorado, has been nominated for the Safe Driver of the Month award, sponsored by the Denver Post, Colorado State Patrol, and the United Bank of Denver.
Mike Wargo and family of Cleveland Heights, Ohio were here last week visiting old friends in Rangely. Former athletic director here, he is now athletic director of Cleveland Heights High School.

An informal 50 year Rangely High School alumnus celebration was held in Rangely on July 13-14 attended by 1947-48 and 1948-49 class member Donald E. Cudd (only one: hence alumnus).
The 15-18 year old Rangely Panther Baseball team enjoyed a great summer of baseball where they played close to 30 games and learned many lessons along the way. This was probably the youngest team Rangely has put on the field in the competitive west slope league.
Both the RE-4 school district and CNCC are looking for members to serve on their boards.
