Burnham Smith had the misfortune to have the fingers of his left hand mashed Thursday at the Cross-Bar-Z ranch at the mouth of North Elk Creek. The little fellow was working around the water wheel which is used to run the grindstone and other machinery and in some manner got his fingers caught between a set of cog wheels and the flesh was badly mangled. Al Ellison brought the boy to town immediately, and Dr. Bell thinks he can fix him up without amputating any of the finger tips.
“Cyclone Bill” struck town Wednesday, and has come to stay. During the past three years he has been traveling for his health.
G.W. Thayer, of the Meeker-Buford stage route, had a runaway in the vicinity of the school house on upper White Wednesday morning and was badly used up. With the assistance of County Clerk Fordham, who happened to be in the vicinity, Mr. Thayer got in with the mail three hours late.

It isn’t your town – it’s you. If things don’t go to suit you, stand around and kick, that will remedy matters speedily. Don’t by any means lend your time and influence in tryikng to get things right – just kick. It is such a pleasant occupation and shows how brainy you are.
Today is the 49th anniversary of the great Centennial State – Colorado. This great Empire of the Rockies is but in its infancy and before many more birthdays have passed it bids fair to becoming one of most prosperous states in the Union.

Tragedy struck this community last Thursday evening, when Dr. Harry Wear was burned to death in a fire which completely destroyed his summer home on upper Miller creek. The fire was first discovered a little before seven o’clock.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Oldland and Miss Betty Lyttle drove to Glenwood Springs Sunday afternoon where they spent the afternoon, returning home that evening.

Heavy electrical storms with its accompanying lightning strikes at various points in the television system the past few days, is the culprit for the TV problems which the county is presently experiencing.
Mr/ Herb Oba, Meeker Elementary Principal, has accepted a position as area superintendent of 25 “bush” schools out of Dillingham, Alaska.
Miss Kelly Watson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee C. Watson and Joe Paul Conrado, some of Esme M. Contrado and the late Charles Conrado, all of Meeker, exchanged wedding vows on June 28 at St. James Episcopal Church in Meeker.

At long last, the volunteer fire department is ready to start work on enlarging and remodeling the fire station.
75-year-old Glen Wiginton won the fourth flight of the Lischke Memorial with a net score of 132.

At the last meeting of the Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce, president Cecil E. Lollar announced that he had been working with the Vernal Chamber of Commerce in regard to a possible Pony Express run between the two towns. The purpose of this project would be to dramatize the present mail situation.
Vandalism is fast becoming a major problem in Rangely. Last year almost two mills of the Town of Rangely’s tax levy went to replace shot out street lights. Not to mention the dozens of local street and highway signs shot up, stolen, knocked down or otherwise damaged.
