Reverend Davis took M.E. Sunday school students at Robertson place to a picnic in Powell Park with a turnout of 33 students. This inspired Reverend Handel of St. James Episcopal church to do the same.

Thomas F. Dunn, brother of John, of Big Beaver, recently passed third in a class of 100 undertakers who took the examination under state law governing this business. 

The new bull law went into effect last Thursday. It provides against the running at large on the ranges of Colorado of “scrubs” bulls, etc.

Marvine makes advertisements for their Fourth of July celebrations, citing that they will have “wild west stunts” and a dance for people to attend. 

In Meeker was about the quietest ever experienced here. Of course, quite a few went to Craig and a good number went up to Marvine… 

A quiet Fourth is the kind we like. It is a saying that every dog has his day; and we like to see the poor mutt spent the day without having a firecracker thrown under his tail. 

Very satisfactory progress was made this week in the matter of erecting our proposed high school building. Bids were received, under the revisioned plans, and opened by the high school board, Monday evening.

One of the projects of the recently organized local Garden Club was the planting of 42 rose bushes in the rose bed at the east entrance of the Rio Blanco Court house. John Panak, a member of the club, was made happy with whatever he found… probably a plug of chewing tobacco. 

Each year the Rio Blanco County Woolgrowers Auxiliary awards a $250 scholarship to a Meeker high school graduating senior whose essay concerning the many and varied facets of the sheep industry is judged to be the best submitted. This year, Kelly Watson, daughter of Lee Watson, wrote the prize winning essay. 

David W. Adams has been appointed Manager of the Craig-Steamboat-Meeker Division of Greeley Gas Company.

School board takes another stab at changing teacher pay system, but gives up, schedules a meeting to discuss it some more, and then adopts a budget of $4,466,268.

Jason Raley, son of Rob and Deb Raley, received an Associate of Applied Science degree from Laramie County Community College In Cheyenne, Wyoming. Jason was also named LCCC’s President’s Honor Roll for spring semester of 1998. 

Last week Trooper Garret Reich was named the Colorado State Patrol, Troop 4-13 “Officer of the Year” for 1998.

Beth Hollwed was the high-point winner for the Meeker Makos swim team at the Splash swim meet.

Rangely Times ~ 50 years ago

Clinic Director Erie V. Johnson, announces that there is still time for students to sign up for the 11th annual Rangely College Cheerleader Clinic this fall. Three professional cheerleading instructors from National Cheerleaders Staff will be on hand to provide a variety of skilled instruction in cheerleading techniques. 

At the last regular meeting of the Rangely Town Council, It was agreed to shut off all users on the Rector Water Line on July 1, due to their failure to present an acceptable contract to the Town for water purchases. 

July has been designed as a time for Colorado citizens to zero in on the litter. Governor Love has proclaimed July as PITCH IN Month and asked residents to assume their responsibilities for a clean and beautiful Colorado. 

Rangely Times ~ 25 years ago

Culpepper & Merriweather Circus will be appearing in Rangely, on Thursday July 9 for two performances at Columbine Park, at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. sponsored by the Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce.

Coin toss at pool. Ages:Toddlers to 15 years. Hunt for coins in the pool until they are gone. Keep what you find. 

The 1998 Range Call Royalty has been very busy the last month and a half, making four different appearances throughout Colorado.
