• Experts say that mental dwarfs are much more common than physical ones.
• Just as happened oft before, as soon as haying is fairly underway the rainy season sets in in earnest.
• E.A. Proctor of Curtis Creek is home again after an extensive trip through Routt county and parts of Southern Wyoming. Mr. Proctor says there is more gold being washed out of the Fourmile placers than people have any idea of. He was very favorably impressed with the Hahn’s Peak country, but it says it is not a good country for poor men to operation is as there is too much water to contend with.
• There is an item going the rounds of the press to the effect that the proper method to keep apples in winter is to wrap them in old newspapers so as to exclude the air. The newspapers, however must be one on which the subscription has been paid, otherwise dampness resulting from what is “dew” may cause the fruit to spoil. ~ Press and Printer

• Fred and Mrs. Burke and the children of Piceance spent the Fourth at Meeker.
• There seemed to be a great abundance of the product called (moonshine) or (white mule) at our celebration.
• Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Ball leave for their cottage on Marvine Creek today, where the balance of the summer will be spent.

• For the second consecutive year, the Pioneers Hospital parade entry won the sweepstakes award as the best all-around entry for the 87th annual parade in Meeker, July 4.
• Miss Sandra Chappell, the Champion and Miss Beverly Moyer, the Reserve Champion for the 4-H Dress Revue, were announced on Thursday evening, June 29. Forty-seven girls participated in the clothing construction and 33 girls modeled their garments for Dress Revue.
• Although entered as a non-competitive float, the float entered by Rio Blanco County paid tribute to all the pioneers of this country, with the message “Good Government Is Your Business.”

• For the second year in a row, White River Electric Association took best of show honors at the Range Call parade. There were 61 entries in the parade.
• John Strate and Jason Weeldryer were far ahead of the pack when they crossed the finish line at the Run for Your Life 5K. The race drew 186 walkers and 84 runners.

• At a regular meeting of the town council held June 27, it was decided to ask all residents to refrain from watering lawns between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. It is anticipated that this policy will be needed for the rest of the summer of adequate water pressure is to be maintained.

• Members of the Class of 1962 of Rangely High School gathered in Rangely last weekend for their 10-year reunion. Class members able to attend were Spencer Davis, Dan Hilkey, Sandra (Hubbard) Silliman, Kathy (Kenyon) Dollahite, Bill Kropinak, Mary (Rector) Pennell, David Rice, Marti (Searcy) Higgins, Joy (Thompson) Allen, Karen (White) Harris, Wesley Yeager and David Zeigler.

• Over the past 20 years, Colorado State Trooper Henry Hames has handed out his share of tickets, but after a long successful career he has decided to call it quits and begin a new chapter in his life. “It’s all been good, looking back on it, it’s been 20 good years.”
• Six new highway information signs for Kenney Reservoir were installed on Monday, July 7, by the local Colorado Department of Transportation crew: Mike Taylor, Bud Mays, Kenneth Moon and Larry Cole.
• Like so many carpenter ants, Town of Rangely clean-up activities are being carried out at a spectacular pace.
