At the meeting of the Town Council last week it was decided to cut down all the trees in the Town Park and to replant it at a cost of $500. Our councilmen seem to think the trees are objectionable because they are native, but in our opinion they are prettier than the Carolina poplars which it is proposed to plant in their stead.
Frank Hopkins, the Rangely school teacher, was in town this week. He says five teams are kept busy hauling asphaltum ore from the Rangely mines to the railroad.

A Washington dispatch of the 13th announces that the Trappers Lake irrigation project will be considered by the government during 1924. This project aims to irrigate lands in the Meeker and Axial basin regions.
The popular Jack Wix has been engaged to again act as tourist agent for Meeker business interests at Rifle and Glenwood this season.
John Kinney landed a Rangely party in town mid-week. Land business before Commissioner Hay.

Rio Blanco County received recognition this past weekend when the chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, Bill Brennan, was elected Western Slope district vice-president at the annual convention of the San Luis Valley and Western Slope districts county commissioners’ association meeting in Grand Junction.
Jerry Oldland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Oldland of Rio Blanco, received his degree from Colorado State University at last Friday’s commencement exercises.
Greg Glasgow, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Glasgow of Meeker, was among 2,100 students who received their degrees at the 80th annual commencement of Utah State University last Saturday.

C.W. “Bill” and Nancy Brennan, longtime Piceance Creek ranchers, are this year’s Range Call parade marshals.
The courthouse lawn will soon play permanent host to a small flock of sheep, and a dog to tend them. The sheepdog display is to commemorate both the role that sheep have played in the Rio Blanco County history and to recognize the many volunteers who have made the Meeker International Trials one of the premier events of its kind in North America.

Greg Lasley, 1963 graduate of Rangely High School and Western State College, will teach driver education next fall and also be assigned as head football and basketball coach at Rangely High.
Rangely’s business scene continues to be a bright one, according to first quarter retail sales statistics released by the Business Research Division of the CU Graduate School of Business Administration.

An arson fire decimated an arcade that was to be an activity center for Dinosaur’s youth. Vandals threw cinder blocks and rocks through the windows, breaking seven of them and damaging 17, set the curtains on fire and egged the front of the building on June 13, Benny Lujan, the owner, said. He estimated the damage to be close to $8,000.
CNCC-Rangely is the happy recipient of thousands of dollars worth of aircraft equipment from Pikes Peak Community College. Pikes Peak donated the items after discontinuing its aviation mechanics program.
