The Meeker Herald ~ 125 years ago

– Garfield Street is being cleared of sagebrush, and if anyone wants to work out his poll-tax he is at liberty to go up there and grub out say two acres a day — four acres in all — or pay $2 in cold cash.

– The town authorities have another scheme in progress for the filling up of Sulphur creek on Second street. It is hoped that it will be successful.

The Meeker Herald ~ 100 years ago

– Every town is just what the citizens make it.

– The Frank Goeder family of Rangely asks the Herald to thank the Meeker Post, American Legion, and all citizens who participated in the Nicholas Goeder monument dedication ceremonies last Sunday. They very much appreciate the honor rendered to their departed soldier boy.

– “To tell you the truth, I’m disappointed,” residents around the area commented after last Thursday morning’s nuclear explosion. And while some people may have been let down because the shock wave from the three 30-kiloton bombs was so small, officials are glad that everything went so well.

– The month of February 1973, set a new record for a minimum amount of precipitation in Meeker during 69 years of official record.

– The Meeker Town Council is continuing to study its options, and hopes to make a decision soon on whether the town hall will move to new quarters to make more room for the Meeker Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department.

–  Ty Gates, President of Meeker High School Class of 1998, gave the commencement address introduction at graduation ceremonies.

Rangely Times ~ 50 years ago

– Theme for this year’s Rangely Days rodeo parade is “Western Family Fun Days.” The idea is to go back in years to when the rodeo and related events had its emphasis on good old-fashioned family fun. The great old days when families traveled from near and far to “make a day of it” with friends and relatives and no one was a stranger.

– We have had no response to our plea for someone to write social items for The Times to date. Surely there is someone who would be interested in spending a few hours a week, with pay, in collecting items about visitors, trips taken, etc.

Rangely Times ~ 25 years ago

– The 13th Maybe Annual Almost Meeker to Rangely Canoe Race saw 17 canoes participate in the Memorial Day event. There was no Top Town Cup awarded this year for the best cumulative times for the top three finishers from any town.

– Town trustees listened to strongly negative comments from police department employees on May 26. With trustees Lance Stewart and Tim Love absent from the regular meeting, Sergeant T.J. Somerville told the balance of town government that the imminent change in the police dept. work schedule would likely result in problems for those employees.
