Vacation days are here. This, however, does not apply to the editor or the printer or the printer’s devil, nor to other trades and professions too numerous to mention.
Rumors have been circulating of late that the Rifle-Meeker telephone project had fallen through, but there were no grounds for any such conclusions.
A few days ago George Welch Jr., received a brand new layout of barber’s tools, chair, glass, etc. and opened up a shop at the old stand. His many friends will be pleased to see Georgie at a chair again.

Patrick Hayes, an oldtimer in the White River country but now a resident of Denver, came in yesterday on a visit to his brother James. Mr. Hayes was among the pioneers who came to Meeker in the ‘80s from Leadville.
Mr. Ambrose Oldland and son John made a business trip to Vernal this week. Mr. Oldland has considerable sheep interest in the eastern part of Utah. He also reports that much oil activity is going on in those parts.
One nice thing about popular songs is that they don’t last.

The Rio Blanco County Old Timers Association will welcome many long time residents to the 63rd annual dinner, meeting and dance Saturday night, June 7, at the Freeman Fairfield Center.
Any typists who would like to assist in the completion of the historical book, “This is What I Remember, Book II,” by typing manuscripts, please contact the museum.
Little four-month old Holly Hurst, daughter of Patricia and Robert Hurst of Lodgepole, Nebr., made her first visit to the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H.H. Dunham over the weekend.

J.C. Watt and Willy Theos teamed up to shoot the day’s best gross score of 91 during the 27 two-man scramble at the Meeker Golf Course last Saturday.
Barnabus LeBlanc, Engineering major at Fort Lewis College, has been named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2000 Trimester.
Beth Ann Jones received a degree in Law (JD) May 12 in the first commencement ceremony of the century at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Several Colorado residents were honored recently by Northwest Pipeline Corporation of Salt Lake City for long-time service to the pipeline system.
After 20 years in Rangely, George Tookey will have his last day of school. The biggest change he’d seen over his teaching career, he said, was in the student attitudes. “The whole civilization is becoming more open and permissive, and students have more say in what education will be.”
Donald Strain of Strain Drug Company has been selected for the June Merchant of the Month in the last monthly contest by the Board of Directors of the Rangely Area Chamber of Commerce.

Thunderstorms passing through northwest Colorado Sunday afternoon were the source of 26 fires. The majority of these incidents were on BLM public land located 10 to 15 miles east of Rangely.
The Rangely Math Club has completed all six of the contests in the Colorado Math League contest this year, placing second in our region. First place in our region was Poudre High School.
Seven members from Rangely High School FBLA and two advisors, Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Douglas, traveled to Vail to attend the State Leadership Conference on May 7-9.
